Take Control of Lighting Costs

Enjoy the benefits of better lighting while reducing energy costs

A view on expanding conservation efforts even further

Based on the savings from this initiative, Randy and team are looking at other lighting retrofit projects for the rest of the AFW stores across the Front Range. “We’re now exploring what it would mean to change out the high-bays at the rest of our sites, and we’d like to see about getting the incandescents in our showroom track lighting switched to compact fluorescents.”

AFW’s experience with the Lighting Efficiency program also increased their interest in other ConservationWise from Xcel EnergySM programs like Cooling Efficiency. In fact, they replaced 12 rooftop AC units at their Westminster, Colorado store with qualifying high-efficiency systems at about the same time they did the lighting retrofits in Thornton

Looking to just get started? Replace T12 fluorescents.

If you don’t have an application for high-bay fluorescent lighting like the one just described, we recommend that you consider a retrofit of fluorescent T12 lamps with fluorescent T8 or super T8 lamps. Why? Newer T8 lighting products tend to start faster, run cooler and have electronic ballasts that regulate the flow of energy to the lamps, so they require less energy. And, we offer rebates on T12-to-T8 and super T8 conversions through our Lighting Efficiency program.

Is Lighting Efficiency right for you?

Consider these questions if you haven’t installed high-efficiency lighting:

  •  What percentage of your overhead is your energy bill?
  • What percentage of your energy bill is for lighting?
  • Are light levels appropriate for the jobs being performed?
  • Do employees complain of eyestrain or inconsistent lighting?

If you don’t know where to start, contact your local utility’s assistance and rebate programs.  They can help your business toward state-of-the-art energy efficient lighting that works as hard as you do.
